The testbed is a self-directed, ground-up UAV programme: airframe selection and assembly, embedded firmware, flight-control logic, and flight dynamics — with full ownership of hardware prototyping and systems integration.
VTOL (vertical take-off and landing combined with fixed-wing cruise) is deliberately the hard choice. It forces us to solve transition dynamics, power budgeting across two flight regimes, and control-surface coordination — the constraints a serious aerial platform must master.
The goal of this phase is not a polished product. It is a heavily instrumented aircraft we can crash, repair, and learn from quickly, producing the flight data that the navigation and coordination research threads consume.
